Summer is fast approaching and one survey found that 80% of Americans plan to travel this summer! When my client reached out about renovating an investment property for an Air BNB, I knew we had to make it the perfect beach vacation spot.
Biloxi, MS is known as the “secret coast” but judging by the amount of people moving here and vacationing here- I think the secret is out! For this particular project, we had a quick timeline and a tight budget. The client also wanted to incorporate some existing pieces into the design. It’s always more challenging for a designer to work with pieces the client already has than starting over from scratch, but I was up for the challenge.
Originally when you walked into the house, the kitchen area was closed off to the living room. When you’re on vacation, you are there to spend time with family and friends so I knew we needed to connect the two spaces. Opening up the wall would also allow us to improve the kitchen design.
My favorite part of the kitchen is this original artwork. This piece is extra special to the homeowner because it was painted by his daughter. I always like to include an original piece of art into every project I do, and it is even better when it comes from a family member!
The next big challenge for me was using furniture the homeowner had and making it cohesive while giving it a contemporary coastal vibe. We kept the overall color scheme of the house in blues, grey, and whites.
Each bedroom received a contemporary coastal makeover with new bedding, accessories and artwork.
