How We Turned a Blank Canvas into a Cozy, Colorful Dream Home
Designing for Real Life, Not Just for the 'Gram
Every now and then, a project comes along that reminds me exactly why I love what I do. One of my recent clients—a sweet, newly relocated couple—had just purchased a beautiful new home. The bones were great, the light was lovely, but the space felt… well, a little empty. She wanted it to feel like them. Cozy but elevated. Fun but refined. Functional but absolutely gorgeous.
And let me tell you, we made magic happen. ✨
Now, if you’ve followed me for a while, you know that my design approach isn’t just about creating a pretty picture (though we do love those!). My true north is function-first design—because your home shouldn’t just look beautiful, it should work beautifully for you.
So before we picked a single pillow I asked my client: “How do you want to live in this space?” In our initial design meeting I always ask my clients how they need the space to function for them? Do they like to entertain? Any special hobbies I need to know about? I really like to do a deep dive into your life to make sure the home is going to meet all your needs!
These simple questions lead to a hundred thoughtful design design decisions.
Let’s talk about the living room. We could’ve gone with a sleek little sofa and a pair of stylish chairs—but instead, we opted for a generously sized sectional that invites curling up, stretching out, and hosting all the friends for movie night. It’s not just a couch, it’s an invitation to relax. And honestly, it turned that room into the heart of the home.
A lot of designers shy away from mixing colors and patterns. Not me. This home needed life and personality—so we layered in bold hues, rich textures, and playful patterns that still feel polished. The result? A home that feels vibrant and welcoming without feeling chaotic.
Every room has its own personality, but they all speak the same language: warmth, joy, and home.
Another way we made this house really work? Sizing everything just right. I paid close attention to scale and proportion to make sure every piece of furniture earned its place. We maximized seating and storage without ever crowding the space. No oversized coffee tables eating up square footage. No tiny chairs floating in the corner like sad afterthoughts.
It’s one of those things you don’t always notice right away—but you feel it. The space just flows.
This project is a great example of what sets my work apart. I don’t do cookie-cutter. I don’t chase trends. I design homes that are tailored to the people who live in them. Homes that feel lived-in, loved, and uniquely yours.
