Hello Design Loves!! I am so excited to bring you todays post. If you ever wondered what my house looks like, then today is your lucky day LOL! I am going to be giving you a look inside my kitchen. When you are building a custom home, the sky is the limit really. But like with all projects I do, there are always investment considerations and the overall function is so important. So today I thought it would be fun to show you my favorite things about my kitchen.
Something you may not know about me is that I don't really like to cook all that much. It stresses me out to be honest. However, I do enjoy baking. When I was designing my custom kitchen I knew I needed a spot for my mixer. I wanted a cabinet that would store my mixer and allow me to use it without moving it at the same time. This cabinet has a shelf that just pops up when I need to use it (power is in the back of the cabinet) and folds down when I'm done. No more carrying a heavy mixer around!
One way to get me to cook more is to make sure that I have easy access to everything! The drawers underneath the cooktop allow for easy access to pots and pans. The pot filler on the wall is another must have! Not having to lug a heavy pot full of water from the sink to the cooktop is a super convenient and I highly recommend it. This is probably my favorite feature in the whole kitchen and I use it every single day.
A full height splash is another must have in your kitchen. There are no grout lines on this backsplash which makes clean up very easy! Can't recommend that enough.
Let's talk about this island for a second. I need lots of room to spread out because-don't judge me- but I make a mess when I cook. I like to spread out and I am usually cooking two or three meals at one time. That's why I decided to just have a large quartz surface. This gives me lots of room for all my stuff. I did add a garbage can cabinet at the end of the island and that makes for easy clean up-also a must!
Did you notice the mixed metals in here? People often mistakenly think you have to use the same finish everywhere and this isn't true! Pick two finishes that you like and stick with those. I kept all my plumbing fixtures chromes because it's a classic color and will always be in style. I did the lights and hardware in gold. These are easier to change out later if I decide I want something different 10 years from now.
hAhhh the farmhouse sink. I'll be honest, I have a love hate relationship with this sink. I love the look. I love how big it is and how easy it is to clean larger pots and pans in it. I hate trying to keep it clean. Just know that the white ones require a little love so if you hate to clean or have OCD I would not recommend a white one.
So there you have it. That's my kitchen. It just makes me happy. Kitchen remodels (and building custom homes) aren't for the faint of heart. There are a lot of decisions that need to be made and if you don't know what you're doing you can make a lot of mistakes. If you're thinking of taking on a project, click here. Let's chat.
