Hi Design Loves! Today we have a fun one for you. This laundry room was in serious need of a facelift and improved functionality.
There were three main issues we had to solve in this space. The main issue was the lack of functional storage. This room not only serves as a space for laundry but also as a spot to store pantry items as well. She also uses this space to do all of her canning (elderberry champagne anyone?) We also needed better accessibility to the cabinets over the washer and dryer. Of course this space was also lacking in personality so we set out to make it feel more like my client.
In order to improve the pantry storage functionality, we added cabinets with pull out shelves in them. This allows for easier access to items in the back. You know the ones we all shove back there and then promptly forget about. We also included taller shelves so she would be able to store her taller, larger appliances. We also added baskets below the countertop to store her vegetables.
We also needed a way to better access the cabinets above her washer and dryer. She has the drawers that sit underneath the washer and dryer making them much taller than usual. The original cabinets in here were standard depth but because of the extra height of the machines, they were really hard to reach. To solve this problem, we added custom cabinets that are 24" deep and have a door on this side so she can access the cabinets from multiple angles.
In the back section of the room, we made sure we had plenty of countertop space so she would have lots of room for all of her canning supplies. We added plenty of cabinets and drawers to house all of her supplies when not in use.
Now can we talk about the color of these cabinets for a minute? I LOVE this red color. It's Benjamin Moore's Tucson Red. We chose this color because it was a color that was found throughout her house in her furniture and artwork. Laundry rooms are like 1/2 baths, you can have some fun in here!
